During the year 2009 , the management of the Institute of Banking Studies headed by H.E. Chairman of the Board of Directors was eager to accomplish a comprehensive and qualitative development in the Institute's activities and its training and academic programs. This was done in view of the management's deep rooted and firmly established belief in the significant role of training and developing human resources in developing our banks and financial institutions. The management of the Institute gave priority to expanding and diversifying the training activities of the Institute in all aspects of financial and banking knowledge directly related to the present situation of the Jordanian financial and banking institutions and their future outlook. The total number of training courses and seminars held during 2009 reached (296) courses and seminars attended by (4715) trainees . The achievements of the Institute during 2009 were as follows:-

The Institute has carried out (13) banking seminars during 2009 attended by (206) trainees in cooperation with several regional and international banking institutions. These seminars aimed at achieving several objectives of top priority to the Institute . The seminars were as follows :

* Specialized Professional Diploma Programs
The Institute of Banking Studies has carried out at its premises in Amman and at its branch in Aqaba six Specialized Professional Diploma Programs in its new structure during the year 2009 on Financial Analysis, Bank Credit. These programs were attended by (104) trainees who sat for the required exams of main training modules for each program. Those who successfully passed the program's exams were granted the certificate of the program signed by H.E. Dr Umayya Salah Toukan / Chairman of the Institute's Board of Directors and by the General Manager of the Institute.
* Investment Advisor Training and Certification Program
The Institute of Banking Studies conducted twice at its premises in Amman the Investment Advisor Training and Certification Program in cooperation with Jordan Securities Commission.
This program which was carried out in English language over (151) training hours, has been applied to the participants by specialized trainers. Twenty eight trainees whom hold the Bachelor Degrees in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration and Economics attended the program. At the end of the program, participants who passed the required certification exam got licenses from Jordan Securities Commission qualifying them to work as Investment Manager, Investment Trustee, and Financial Advisor .
Moreover, the Institute has conducted two qualification exams for this program certificate according to the Jordan Securities Commission regulations, they were attended by (9) of the professionals seeking to be certified from the Jordan Securities Commission and whom holds Master's Degree in any specialization of the Business Administration faculties, or a CFA certificate , or have more than five years of practical experience.
* Mock Dealing Room Courses
The Institute of Banking Studies continued during this year to implement the Spot Foreign Exchange and Money Markets Dealers Training and Certification Program which was held at the Institute's Mock Dealing Room with it's two parts,Windeal for Spot FX and Windeal for Money Market.
During the year 2009, thirteen training courses were been held within this program and were attended by (100) trainees from different banks and financial institutions.
* Comprehensive Training Program for Beginners
In view of the Institutes eagerness to widening the banks' new recruits knowledge in different aspects of banking operations, the management of the Institute decided to enrich the contents of the Comprehensive Training Program for Beginners by adding two parts related to credit cards and E-Banking services , increasing the training hours to be (118) hours. By this, the program consisted of three parts: internal banking operations, external banking operations and the basic banking subjects. During this year, the Institute carried out this program three times and were attended by (52) participants from different banks and financial institutions in Jordan.
* Training and Qualification Program for the First Level Exam of the CFA Certificate
The Institute of Banking Studies has carried out this program during the year 2009 at its premises in Amman for (99) training hours during the evenings in English language, and was attended by (15) participants to qualify them to pass the first level exam of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Certificate which is considered the most important specialized and professional certificate in this field .
* Training and Qualifying Microfinance Specialists Program in cooperation with The Sudan Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences
In light of the Institute's desire to serve the banking and financial cadres operating in a number of Arab countries, the Institute held in cooperation with the Sudan Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences / Sudan the "Training and Qualifying Microfinance Specialists" program which was divided into two parts: the first consists of two levels (basic and advanced), and the second was entitled "Training of Trainers(TOT)".
The basic level of the first part which was consisted of (49) training hours was held at the Academy of Sudan from 1/8 to 8/8/2009 and it was attended by (15) trainees from the banks and microfinancing institutions and also from a number of universities and training institutions operating in Sudan. This training course was followed by the advanced level of the first part and was carried out from 3/10 to 11/10/2009 for the participants who passed successfully the basic level of the program. This course consisted also of (56) training hours. The Institute then invited the participants who passed the required exams at the end of the advanced level of the first part of the program to its premises in Amman in order to attend the second part of the program entitled "Training of Trainers (TOT)" from 8/11 to 12/11/2009 .
Second : Academic Activities
* Intermediate University Diploma Program :
The last Student admitted in the Intermediate University Diploma Program completed the requirements of getting the Intermediate University Diploma Degree in Islamic Banking and Financial Studies specialization at the end of the first semester of the academic year 2008/2009 Since the issuance of the board of directors decision no. (802) dated on 9/4/2007 to halt the admission in the program since the academic year 2007/2008 and for five years. The total number of all program graduates since the foundation of the institute in 1971 and until the end of the first semester of the academic year 2008/2009 reached (1575) graduates.
As for the Intermediate University Certificate Exam (Comprehensive Exam) for spring 2009, (4) students of the Institute's graduates sat for , these students are divided into two categories : Students applying for the exam for the first time and students who failed previously in the exam and the percentage of success among them was (50%) as compared to the Percentage of success for all participants in the Intermediate University Certificate Exams in the kingdom which was (41.56%) for the managerial and financial sciences program and (60.55%) for all specializations.
As for the Intermediate University Certificate Exam (Comprehensive Exam) For Summer 2009, (2) students of the Institute's graduates sat for , these two Students were failed previously in the exam , and one of them passed the exam note that the Percentage of success for all participants in the Intermediate University Certificate Exams in the kingdom which was (76.64 %) for all specializations.
* Master's Program in cooperation with the University of Jordan
Leaning on the Institute's management efforts to carry on his path within the Academic domain, The Institute continued the implementation of the academic affiliation and cooperation agreement signed between the Institute and the University of Jordan dated 29/5/2003 to held the Master's Program in cooperation with The University of Jordan with changing it's name from MBA in Banking and Finance to MA in Banking and Finance in addition to upgrading the curriculum of the program courses to become more specialized in finance and banking , (57) students joined the program during this year , one of them sat on 22/3/2009 for the comprehensive exam after completing the requirements and he successfully passed it , also another student sat for the comprehensive exam on 22/11/2009 and he successfully passed it. so the total number of graduates reached (65) since the inception of the program in 2003 .
However , (29) students from the fifth and sixth groups continued their studies within the program to obtain the MBA degree in Banking and Finance. In addition, to (25) students joined the program in the new MA program in banking and finance at the beginning of the academic year 2009/2010, after being selected in accordance with resolutions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and with no variance with the accredited admission regulations of the Higher Studies Faculty at the University of Jordan, in addition to the institute's competitive rules for choosing the candidates.
Third : The Library
During the year 2008 the management of the Institute enriched the Institute's library with a large number of references , periodicals , financial and banking bulletins and specialized books from local , Arab and international publishers. The Institute's library has thus become an important reference for qualifying and upgrading the abilities of the financial and banking cadres in Jordan , and a distinguished platform for spreading bank knowledge and technology.
In view of the above, and in order to spread and encourage knowledge, research and reading, the Institute has provided the library with (106) reference books in Arabic language and (51) reference books in English language, thereby increasing the total number of books and references in Arabic language to (10196) and the number of books and references in English language to (3887).
